Joyce Gram and I have just completed the attached discussion guide on aboriginal education. It is taken from intensive studies done by the Society for the Advancement of Excellence in Education in schools that were exceeding expectations. The first study (which forms the basis for this guide) focused on 10 schools in western Canada. A further study covered eastern Canada.

Researchers were able to pull out common factors in all settings, and these factors form the basis for our discussion guide.

Reading the stories of these successful schools was a heartwarming experience. Truly, it is amazing what can be done when families and educators work together - really together - to make a better world for aboriginal children.
