Cathy Cove is a 12 year pioneer of parent advocacy in the province of Ontario. Founder and director of ParentNetwork Ontario, the mother of two worked to build the confidence of parents within and outside of the public school systems. Driven by the frustration of Ontario parents in their school council experience to partner with the system. In an effort to shift the balance of education out from under the thumb of an often too bloated bureaucracy, Cathy's goal has been to move parents into their profile as leaders in their education communities, thus allowing the parent voice to be an impetus for effective educational change. A three time government appointee she served as the first ever parent representative appointed to a provincial taskforce as a member of the Minister of Education's Advisory Committee on the Provision of Co-Instructional Activities. She also worked alongside other parents on the Ontario Parent Council, and has served on her own school board's Special Education Advisory Committee. Since January 2007, Cathy has been on contract as a freelance writer to her local Goderich Signal Star newspaper, where she continues to raise education, municipal and political issues.
