We all knew that the roots of the BC Teacher's College went pretty deep with the union, what with their endorsement of members being elected, but I had no idea it was this entrenched. Janet Steffenhagen has an article in today's paper about a couple of renegade former unionists trying to break away. I was reading along thinking, yup, good for them, it's about time, they do themselves no favours in the credibility realm being so beholden and then I read this quote:
But Nichols insists elected councillors are perceived as being in a conflict of interest because they are endorsed by the BCTF and are required to meet BCTF executives before college council meetings.
Seriously, what? I had no idea. Thanks to Janet for shedding light on this. This is clearly a conflict of interest and if it isn't, I don't know what its.
Read the whole thing here.
