Let's kill Dick & Jane, the Open Court Story by Harold Henderson

I'm still reading this book. I'm also wishing I'd started with a highlighter, but I'll read it again, highlighter in hand.

The really interesting thing about the beginnings of Open Court is that the founder, Blouke Carus, wasn't a big advocate of phonics or anything along those lines at all. He was an advocate of good literature, but quickly realized that students couldn't read it, so phonics was a means to an end for him. He was an engineer who just basically saw the issue in black and white. So simple. But there is a lot more to the story of course.

If you cant' find it at your local bookstore (ain't that a knee slapper? \:D ), Amazon or Chapters Indigo will have it.
